Barnaul is the administrative centre of the Altai Territory. It is traditionally considered that it was founded in 1730, although some present-day researches think that it was founded in 1739 as a silver and copper-smelting centre on initiative of A. Demidoff. In the 18th and early 19th centuries 90% of Russian silver – 16.5 tons annually – was produced in Altai. The Barnaul silver-smelting works was considered to be the largest one. It had 13 furnaces that produced up to 7.4 tons per year. It is not surprising that a small works settlement kept growing and in 1771 acquired the status of ‘mining town’, the largest in Siberia.

P. Semienov Tian-Shanskiy, a famous traveler who had visited Barnaul in 1856-1857, wrote: ‘Barnaul is the cultural centre of Siberia, and I have called it ‘Siberian Athens’’. But soon silver-smelting production was reduced. In 1894, one year before golden currency security was introduced in Russia, Barnaul silver smelteries had closed down.
From this point on a new period began. Barnaul became a merchant city, a place of trade in butter, bread in return for agricultural machinery, separators and other equipment.
Today Barnaul is the biggest transport hub of Siberia, major industrial and cultural center.

Historical dates:
In 1771 acquired the status of ‘mining town’, the only one in Siberia!

In 1779 a Senior Mining School – the first one in Siberia, was founded.

In 1865 peasants were allowed to move from European part of Russia to Altai. A shipping traffic between Barnaul and Biysk began.

In 1908 the first telephones appeared. The City Council (Duma) permitted to merchant Morozoff to drive a car in the city.

In 1937 Barnaul became the centre of the Altai Territory.

The main principle of our work is quality and reliability of cargo forwarding.
